David Schwartz 

David Schwartz is a co-founder and principal of Slate Property Group. He has over twenty years of experience buying, developing, and operating real estate across the United States. He currently runs all development and construction projects for Slate Property Group and shares responsibility for all acquisitions and investment decisions. 

David also leads Slate’s impact investing with a focus on affordable housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  Slate is the leader in housing for low income and formerly homeless individuals and families in New York City.  Slate partners with the leading non-profits in New York City including Women in Need, Project Renewal, Bowery Resident Committee, Westham and many others.   

Slate has developed and invested in over $6 billion in real estate. Slate is developing over $2 billion in real estate throughout New York City representing over 2,000 apartments and has a portfolio valued at over $3 billion.  Slate’s partners have included the Carlyle Group, AEW Capital Management, The Baupost Group, Fortress, and many others.  

Prior to Slate Property Group, David co-founded two New York City based development firms. He was responsible for the development of over 1,000 units throughout New York City representing over 750,000 square feet. Prior to founding his own development firms, David worked for Crescent Heights of America, where he was involved in over $500M in ground up residential developments representing over 1,000 units. Throughout David’s career he has been involved in the development of almost $5 billion in real estate. Prior to Crescent Heights of America, David worked at Lux Capital and J.P. Morgan. David received his B.S. in finance from Syracuse University.

David currently serves on the boards of the Furman Center at New York University, the Citizens Housing Planning Council, the New York State Association for Affordable Housing, The Center for Community Alternatives, The Brooklyn Hospital Center, the Kuhn Real Estate Center at Syracuse University and Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School.   David and his wife Haley are also very involved in Hudson River Park and served as the Capital Campaign Co-Chair for the Pier 26 science play area capital campaign.
